What LangMem is

LangMem is a library from the LangChain team with utilities for extracting memories from conversations, letting agents manage memory through tools, and optimizing prompts, typically on top of a LangGraph store.

What Auld is

Auld is a memory service. Your systems send time-stamped records; Auld extracts memories, reconciles changes into current state with history, and returns cited memories scoped to the viewer, over REST or MCP.

What remains your job with an SDK

  • Running and scaling the store, backups and retention.
  • Deciding how conflicting facts are resolved and keeping history.
  • Implementing tenant isolation and deletion.
  • Monitoring extraction quality as prompts and models change.

How to choose

Choose LangMem when

  • You want full control and are on LangGraph already.
  • Your memory needs are simple and per user.

Choose Auld when

  • You’d rather not operate memory infrastructure.
  • You need history, asOf and scoped recall out of the box.

Evaluate and verify

Trade-offs depend on your data. Run the same test set against each option — the methodology page has a checklist — and confirm current capabilities in the official documentation.
