Docs MCP

Connect an MCP client

Create an MCP token, add the server to your client, and test it with one remember and one recall.

#1. Create a token

Create an MCP token for the project and identity the client should act as, with the tools you want enabled. Store it as AULD_MCP_TOKEN.

#2. Add the server

Most clients that support remote (Streamable HTTP) servers accept a URL and headers:

Client configuration (JSON)
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "auld": {
      "url": "https://YOUR-AULD-HOST/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${AULD_MCP_TOKEN}" }
    }
  }
}

For a command-line client that registers servers by command, the equivalent is typically:

Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http auld https://YOUR-AULD-HOST/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $AULD_MCP_TOKEN"
.vscode/mcp.json
{
  "servers": {
    "auld": { "type": "http", "url": "https://YOUR-AULD-HOST/mcp",
              "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:auldToken}" } }
  },
  "inputs": [{ "id": "auldToken", "type": "promptString", "description": "Auld MCP token", "password": true }]
}

#3. Test it

  1. Remember

    Ask: “Remember that our staging database moved to eu-west on 14 October.”

  2. Check

    Ask: “What’s the status of that memory?” — the client calls memory_status.

  3. Recall

    In a new conversation ask: “Where is the staging database?”
