What mem0 is
mem0 is a widely used memory layer with an open-source library and a hosted platform. Teams look at alternatives for many reasons — data model, hosting, scoping or cost — and the right test depends on which.
What Auld is
Auld is a memory service. Your systems send time-stamped records; Auld extracts memories, reconciles changes into current state with history, and returns cited memories scoped to the viewer, over REST or MCP.
What to test in any alternative
- Update: state a fact, then a changed fact a week later. Ask the question. Is the newer value returned, and is the old one still available as history?
- Late arrival: import an older email after a newer one. Does the older value wrongly win?
- As of: ask what was true on a past date.
- Scope: recall as a user who shouldn’t see a record.
- Abstain: ask something nothing supports. Does the system return nothing rather than a near match?
- Delete: delete a record. Do derived memories disappear?
How Auld approaches each
| Requirement | Auld design |
|---|---|
| Changing facts | Supersession with history |
| Time | Validity intervals, asOf |
| Scope | Identities, audiences, visibility |
| Evidence | Source excerpt on each memory |
| Deployment | Managed or own cloud |
Evaluate and verify
Trade-offs depend on your data. Run the same test set against each option — the methodology page has a checklist — and confirm current capabilities in the official documentation.
