What mem0 is

mem0 is a memory layer for AI applications, available as an open-source library and as a hosted platform. Its documentation describes extracting memories from conversations, storing them for users, agents or sessions, and retrieving them by relevance, with optional graph memory.

What Auld is

Auld is a memory service. Your systems send time-stamped records; Auld extracts memories, reconciles changes into current state with history, and returns cited memories scoped to the viewer, over REST or MCP.

How to choose

Choose mem0 when

  • You want an open-source library you run and modify yourself.
  • Your memories are mostly user preferences extracted from chat.
  • You are already invested in its ecosystem.

Choose Auld when

  • Facts change and you must know which is current and when it changed.
  • Answers need citations to source records.
  • Visibility differs by team, customer or matter.

Evaluate and verify

Trade-offs depend on your data. Run the same test set against each option — the methodology page has a checklist — and confirm current capabilities in the official documentation.
